Destin, Florida
Also part of the same barrier island as the Beaches of South Walton is Destin, the Luckiest Fishing Village in the World. In fact, Destin Harbor is a world in itself; the morning light on the harbor catches the early departure of the fishing fleet through an entrance so narrow that you can nearly touch the boats. As the sun goes down, followed by anxious pelicans and seagulls, the fleet returns laden with red snapper, amberjack, grouper, and if you’re lucky, cobia. You’ll surely give into the temptation to settle at a table right on the harbor at Harbor Docks. Be sure to tell Charlie and Steve we say hello.
“The Luckiest Fishing Village in the World.”
If shopping is your bag, Destin offers shops galore from Silver Sands Outlet Mall to Destin Commons to the many boutiques and department stores that line Destin’s main streets. Of course if you’re a golfer, you must have heard of our area’s many championship golf courses. If not, let us clue you in. Water sports from surfing to parasailing to jet skis to chartering a boat can easily be found in Destin. Should you need assistance or information regarding water sports, we are happy to recommend local vendors.
Whatever your to do list reminds you to do in Destin, make sure to take a look at the beautiful turquoise water within the jetties at Destin’s most western tip – an awesome sight that you will never forget. You might even see a dancing dolphin or two.
